Associate Software Engineer
Would you like to expand your expertise in working with HR and Corporate Communications systems that support various business functions within the LCBO and have a significant impact on LCBO’s business? Reporting to the Team Lead, Business Delivery Management, the Associate Software Engineer will assist in the planning and management of multiple, concurrent, and large multi-phase systems development and maintenance projects. Under supervision, they will apply solid technical skills to develop and deliver enhancements, translate business requirements into technical solutions, resolve system issues and provide associated documentation that supports the organizational technology standards.

About the Role
  • Under supervision, develop code, develop new small/midsize applications (e.g., where no commercially available solution exists), real time and batch interface programs, as well as programs for automatic correction of erroneous data, programs to extract, translate, load, and verify data using an enterprise messaging layer (e.g., Kafka)
  • Work closely with IT stakeholders to collectively provide support, maintenance, and enhancements to Workday and target state technology
  • Utilize modern development practices such as Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, and agile methodologies.
  • Solicit business requirement and develop Unit test cases, using test-driven development and automated testing frameworks, and validate test results during testing. Test and debug application in conjunction with business to ensure reliability and that LCBO standards and business requirements are met.
  • Assist business users in solving programs, answer system and application-related questions, validate and challenge resolution recommendation, and address/resolve escalated issues.
About You
  • Post-secondary education in relevant knowledge field or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of experience designing and developing applications solutions to address moderately complex challenges

Competency in one or more of the following technologies is required:
  • Java, JavaScript, XML, JSON, Python, SQL, Jenkins, GIT, Octane, ALM, Kafka, Restful APIs, or specific technologies for the domain (i.e., Workday)
  • Competent knowledge in application domain
  • Competent in specific applications: Workday RaaS, Web Services and APIs (WSDL, SOAP, REST and WS standards)
  • Aware to provide input to influence strategy within the application domain
  • Competent knowledge of specific applications and corresponding data flows in/out of these applications
  • Competent understanding of the accountable business domain
  • Practiced in developing efficient and robust solutions
  • Practiced in providing input to Innovative solutions
  • Practiced in learning best practices o Competent in decomposing problem, planning, and testing
  • Competent knowledge in determining how well the problem was solved, and how efficient and maintainable the solution is
  • Practiced in identify emerging technologies that may benefit this domain
  • Collaboration skills
Nice-to- Have
  • College diploma or undergraduate university degree in a related discipline (e.g., Computer Science) or a combination of experience, education and/or training deemed to be equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience developing small and midsize applications for which there is no commercially available solution.
